As an artist, I mainly work with clay and some mixed media materials such as resin, wire, and paint. My art is the interpretation of my thoughts and my imagination, inspired by daily experience. My artwork brings together a combination of nature, humans, mythology, and fairytales. These ideas explore the deeper meaning inside of these different forms of figure, plant, and animal. I am fascinated with simple forms that can reflect real-life behaviors. Such as fairytales and mythology, that they are beyond reality but are the reflection of reality; it’s like the paralleled world of the world we live in right now. By combining plant, animal, and human figure I am experimenting with the idea of life. I like the feeling of having a general idea before I start working, but the work itself evolves during the making process and becomes something different and become alive. I enjoy this transforming process and I wish to explore more in my future art life.

I am an artist in the 3D4M program at the University of Washington who has mainly focused on ceramics and has been an artist since 6 years ago. I was born and raised in Suzhou, China, and I moved to the US when I was in middle school. After high school, I moved from the east coast Virginia to northwest Seattle. The delicacy and whimsical feeling of my home city Suzhou influences the style of my work and I have drawn a lot of inspiration from my own culture and traditions. I became interested in hand-building ceramic sculptures and three-dimensional forms when I was in my sophomore year, drawn to the flexibility of clay and the unpredictability of the material. I enjoy the working experience with the many talented professors in 3D4M such as professor Doug Jeck. He encouraged me to be brave to try new things and not be afraid of failure. Thus, I started to work without hesitation and this enables me to recreate many of my ideas into 3D artworks.
