As someone who is curious by nature, I turn to philosophical discussions to quench my thirst for answers and I use art to record my process. I am drawn to honestly presenting my journey while walking through life struggling with identity, mental health, existentialism. My artworks challenge people to face the absurdity of this world straight on while finding their answers to claim this reality as their own.

Pansies series
The series is an honest reflection of my gratitude and an attempt to preserve my joy during a trying time. The work was made during the most chaotic time of my life while I held tightly onto what had kept me grounded. I’m interested in evoking the inner child of me and others and recalling the simplicity of playing.

Michelle Ma is a multimedia artist who started her practice with drawing and painting and was introduced to sculpting, and printmaking through the school of art. Michelle’s works evolve as she acquires new techniques to aid with her storytelling.

Born in L.A. and raised in Taipei, Michelle constantly travels between the United States and Taiwan. She lived in four cities in the past five years and moved to the Seattle area to work on her BA in Interdisciplinary Visual Art and her minor in Drama Design from the University of Washington. She is currently working as an Art Liaison in the Henry Art Gallery internship program remotely while continuing her multidisciplinary art practice in Taipei.
