My Art is inspired by the relation between the environment and the human figure. I’m interested in conveying how the environment is the myth that creates a correlation between the figure’s position, the action that is pursued, the clothing, and the facial expressions that interpret the figure’s feelings. I use oil paints on different canvas sizes. It is made using four thumbnails as references to the final. I use the imagery of working figures with a style that shifts away from modern times and reflects the unseen beauty of pre-industrial life. The figures in my painting are often doing things that would not be seen in our contemporary life. The use of color mixing supports the theme by adding a warm tone to all the shades of the paintings. The dark overall color palette is the main aspect of traditional historical paintings that would often be seen in historical art museums. I rely on oil paints with the help of linseed oil medium that helps the paintings dry faster and fastens the process of mixing. In the end, I use a thin layer of varnish to reflect the shine of the highlights and give the painting more depth by enhancing the details. The indirect-looking figures complement the realism of the scenes in the paintings. The title of my paintings are a description of the scene or the name I chose to give the character that mirrors the living environment and personality of it.

Minnah Aiad (b. 2001, Seattle, Washington) is an interdisciplinary artist whose work explores painted portraits in different materials and mediums. Raised in Cairo, Egypt, she draws inspiration from her experiences in Egypt and from her surroundings. She is a current BA (2021) candidate in Interdisciplinary Visual Arts at the University of Washington. Her painting Aziza has been shared on a number of social media platforms by artists like Safyeh Aljabori and others.
